Department of Theoretical Physics, IFIN-HH

Summer internships
The Geometry and Physics group occasionally opens internship positions (usually during the summer period) for Physics students of the University of Bucharest. Students who hold a Bachelor of Science degree can apply for an internship within our group by contacting the supervisor mentioned in the internship announcement and (depending on availability of funding) may be employed temporarily by the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Horia Hulubei Institute during the internship's duration. The internship ends with a written report (in LaTeX) authored by the intern about the subject studied during the internship period and an evaluation of that report by the intern's supervisor, which is forwarded to the Head of Department. When available, all temporary employment in DTP must be approved by the Head of Department and by the Department Council. To apply, students should send (by email) the following documents to the relevant internship supervisor:
1. A copy of the Bachelor Degree Diploma
2. A recent CV
3. An up-to date copy of the current academic transcript (in pdf format)
4. A brief description of their research interests and their motivation for wishing to gain work experience within the Geometry and Physics group in the subject relevant to the internship position for which they apply.
5. If seeking funding from DTP/IFIN-HH, proof that they are enrolled in the MS Degree program of the University of Bucharest.
Note: Students of University of Bucharest can provide a pdf copy of the Bachelor certificate obtained from the Secretariat of the their department (instead of the official Bachelor Diploma) and a pdf version of their academic transcript obtained from the online system of the university when applying for an internship to a member of our group. However, they will also have to provide a copy of the official academic transcript (which can be obtained from the Rector's Office) to the DTP Head of Department if they wish to be hired temporarily by the Department of Theoretical Physics of IFIN-HH during the period of the internship.
Internship positions will be announced on this page (as well as on the Internships Page of the Department) when they become available. Internships are usually announced during Spring. Internship applications are generally processed in May.
A list of research projects relevant to our group which are accessible to internship, MS and PhD level students can be found here. All internship reports are written in the English language; our group does not consider applicants who are not proficient in English.
Working as an intern within the Geometry and Physics group is strongly recommended to students of the University of Bucharest before applying for MS or PhD degree supervision by a senior member of the group. As a general rule, our group does not supervise MS or PhD students from the University of Bucharest who did not previously acquire some familiarity with our subjects of interest and with the mathematics level expected from them by gaining some experience through an internship. Students interested in internships and prospective supervision by a member of our group are encouraged to consult our recommended minimal and graduate curricula.
Note that any intern or graduate student member of the Geometry and Physics Group must agree to certain common sense rules in order to gain and maintain access to the buildings and facilities of the Horia Hulubei Institute.
